Good news - if you were looking for joking.net, you found it. The bad news of course is that you were probably looking for jokes,
not for me, or just wondering what might live at such an obvious domain name.
My name is Joe King (yes, really), and I'm a
Phoenix based IT guy with a
both management and customer service
background. Some of the highlights
of what I've been up to
include the migration of a HIPAA
compliant, publicly traded company
from Lotus Notes to Exchange 2010,
about half a dozen additional Exchange
system recoveries, and a couple of virtualization initiatives. Some
of what I've done has been
described in this Microsoft
whitepaper, this
blog, and this MSDN Channel 9
video. I've even kept an entire
company running (without downtime or
service outage) after the destruction of our infrastructure by a tornado.
The tornado was followed by a fire, but phones were still answered, products were still shipped, and online transactions were still conducted. That was a pretty good exercise in
business continuity, if I do say so
myself. I'm strong in project
management, such as the development of the Bidtopia.com auction site, Microsoft technologies
(particularly Small Business
Server), system administration, and I also teach Microsoft certification classes at the community college level. I'm always on the lookout for new projects.
As for this web site, Joking.net has been around for a long time. The derivation is:
Joseph King = Joe King
Joe King = "joking"
"joking" = "joking.net"
It's one of those things that people either get right away, or never get at all. Those that get it right away lead off with "Hey, you must be joking!" (Thinking of course they were the first to come up with it.) That got old around the 3rd grade. Not long after however, I embraced the horror, and decided that there is benefit to having a name that people never forget. That eventually led to this domain name, my license plate, etc.
I have placed all my business contact information here because
while people forget my address, my phone number,
even my e-mail, they seldom
forget "joking". Over the years I've
used this domain name for e-mail, a place to host my
resume, and now a site that covers the
professional side of my life. It does still include my resume, but also the tools of my trade, and
provides
me a place to direct people when I network. Time and use has allowed
joking.net to become my personal
brand.
